IBJ Letters To The Editor

I enjoyed [Mickey Maurer’s Feb. 8 column] on “Avatar”! It was a refreshing counter to the media (and social) phenomenon swirling around this (in my opinion) banal flick. I was under-wowed by it when I took my kids as I saw the story as a poorly rewritten version of the classic (“Broken Arrow”!) oversold through computer-generated imagery. Not nearly a worthy contender for the multiple Oscar nominations it has received.

I miss the days of just telling a good story. We’re trading a lot of that for fancy pictures instead of well-thought content and calling it a blockbuster.
