Past board chairman David N. Griffiths has been named interim president of the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, the organization announced Friday.

Griffiths will fill in for Roland Dorson, who resigned as president last week in the wake of a dispute with board leaders.

Griffiths retired as president and CEO of Citizens Gas & Coke (now Citizens Energy) five years ago. He has written two books on quality management and company leadership since then.

The chamber said Friday that a committee has been appointed to conduct a national search for a permanent replacement for Dorson.

John Thompson, treasurer of the chamber, will oversee the search for the new president.

Other members of the search committee include Beverley Pitts, president of the University of Indianapolis; Daniel Elsener, president of Marian University; J. Albert Smith Jr., president of Chase’s central Indiana operations; and Joe Slaughter, president of Herff Jones Inc.

Other members are Walker Information Inc. CEO Steven Walker, Corbitt & Sons Construction Co. CEO  Stephen Corbitt, Lumina Foundation CEO Jamie Merisotis and UPS Ohio Valley District President Zachary Scott.

Dorson, who joined the chamber in 1991 and had been president since 2006, had been on an extended leave of absence before stepping down.
