Citizens Energy Group proclaims a vision to “… fulfill the promise of the Trust to serve our customers and communities with unparalleled excellence and integrity” and a mission to “… maintain the lowest possible rates with sound financial management.” Yet still they remain neutral on Leucadia National Corp.’s Rockport coal gasification plant, a venture that would cost ratepayers $1.1 billion over the next eight years.

How can Citizens Energy, a charitable trust, stay silent on a project that will burden Indiana families with higher heating rates, when even Indiana’s investor-owned utilities have lobbied against it?

It’s not often that utilities are on the same side as environmental and consumer advocates, but on this issue the answer is clear. Citizens Energy, live up to your vision and say no to Leucadia. Your customers and communities deserve it.
