The city of Indianapolis has closed a major downtown plaza and part of a parking garage below it near the Indiana Convention
Center and Lucas Oil Stadium.
The city's Department of Code Enforcement said Wednesday night that the structural integrity of the parking facility
below Pan Am Plaza posed an immediate risk to life, safety and property. It says the plaza adjacent to Union Station will
be closed until further notice and parking in the garage will be restricted.
The department says the action doesn't affect the Pan Am Plaza Office Building or skating facilities.
The plaza was the centerpiece for the 1987 Pan American Games held in Indianapolis and has hosted public events since then.
