NTN Driveshaft Inc., a manufacturer of automotive velocity joints in Columbus, said Tuesday morning that it plans to add 50 jobs by 2013 as part of an $18 million expansion.

The company, a division of Japan-based NTN Corp., said the money will be used to purchase additional production equipment for its 1-million-square-foot facility.

NTN Driveshaft currently has more than 1,500 full-time employees in Columbus and already has begun hiring for engineering, production and maintenance jobs.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. said it will provide the company up to $235,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $50,000 in training grants based on the job-creation plans. The city of Columbus has approved additional property tax abatements.

NTN Driveshaft began operating in Columbus in 1990. Its parent company was founded in Japan in 1918.
