Deadline looms for state's Do Not Call list

Back to TopCommentsE-mailPrintBookmark and Share

Tuesday is the next deadline to sign up for Indiana's Do Not Call registry.

Since January, the state attorney general's office said it has received more than 5,000 complaints about telemarketing calls from live operators or prerecorded messages.

One scam includes an automated call offering to lower consumers' credit card interest rates. The scam doesn't provide any service.

Another automated call mentions an FBI report on the number of home break-ins and offers a "free" home security system. The caller will take information and sell it to a for-profit home security company.

Other consumers have received calls from a live operator who says the consumer has won a large sum of money and can claim it by paying a fee.

Information about the Do Not Call registry can be found here.

  • Attorney General
The Attorney General's office has done nothing whatsoever to slow down these calls. Mr. Zoeller has been too busy writing amicus briefs to the Supreme Court to ensure that Indiana lags behind the rest of the nation in regards to marriage equality.
  • Why bother
This is the most ineffective program ever. Being on the list does not stop the calls. It doesn't even slow them down. Exactly what has the attorney general's office done about those 5,000 complaints? Apparently nothing.
    • No Deadline
Accoriding to their website there is no deadline to the Do Not Call list. What is this article referring to??

    1. On my rental property, before tax caps, I was paying $2,000/yr in property taxes. After the tax caps I'm paying $4,000/yr. How exactly am I "benefiting the most"?

    2. Nick, I too tried that new Walmart NM on Michigan a couple of weeks ago. I had the same feeling, it had good prices, but something was just off about it. I can't put my finger on what it is, but it just didn't feel right. On the plus side, it was easy to get in and out of and much less busy than a typical Walmart.

    3. @Young Hoosier - you might want to check out the Paris skyline again....it's decidedly taller than 7-8 stories http://all-that-is-interesting.com/paris-skyline-photo
