Officials at Holiday World & Splashin' Safari in southern Indiana on Wednesday unveiled plans for a $9 million ride that will be the most expensive in the park’s history.

The Mammoth, set to open at the park in Santa Claus next May, will be the world’s longest water coaster, park officials said.

The 1,763-foot-long ride will feature a five-story drop, six-passenger boats and cover a third of an acre. It will pass the park’s existing Wildebeest ride as the world’s longest water coaster.

“We added the Wildebeest water coaster last year and it was a runaway hit,” said park president Dan Koch in a prepared statement. “So we asked our designers for something even bigger. It’s so huge, we’re calling it Mammoth.”

ProSlide Technology Inc. of Ontario, Canada, designed the ride.

The park about 35 miles east of Evansville features roller coasters, wave pools, lazy rivers, water slides and children's areas. It drew a record 1.18 million visitors last year.
