Indiana BMV nixes fee to see driver record online

Indiana drivers can now review online records including citations, suspensions and violations without paying a fee.

The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles is dropping the $4 fee that people once had to pay to see their driver records online.

It's also reducing the cost of certified copies of official driver records, which can now be ordered online or by mail for $4 instead of $8. The official records are often required by employers or school admission offices.

BMV Commissioner Scott Waddell says the most frequently asked questions at the BMV Call Center are about requirements to reinstate a suspended driver's license. Waddell says the free access to the records will allow drivers to better understand the reinstatement requirements.

More than 340,000 Indiana drivers have suspended licenses.
