Indiana's casinos would be allowed to hold card tournaments at hotels or other sites on their properties under a proposal that has cleared the state Legislature.

The Indiana House voted 58-41 Tuesday to approve the bill despite a top Republican legislator saying he considered it an expansion of gambling.

Bill supporters say the state's casinos need bigger spaces such as hotel lobbies or meeting rooms to host large poker tourneys and that those events would fall under normal regulation of state Gaming Commission.

House Speaker Pro Tem Eric Turner said he's worried about allowing gambling activities to spread into non-casino areas of the properties where children are normally allowed.

The Senate already approved the bill, and it now goes to Gov. Mitch Daniels for his consideration.
