to Carmel’s Crooked Stick Golf Club for three days of practice and four days of tournament play.
The largest crowd
gathered for Sunday’s finale, with 30,565 pouring through the gates. The gallery was 29,355 strong on Saturday and 28,548
on Friday under ideal weather conditions. The tournament’s opening day drew 22,715.
Large crowds even turned out to
watch practice, with Monday drawing 8,032, Tuesday drawing 13,880 and Wednesday bringing in 13,820.
Tournament organizers
initially offered only a $100 week-long ticket to the event, but introduced a $40 single-day tournament ticket in May and
a $15 practice-day ticket to give golf fans lower-priced options.
Tournament officials said given the economic climate,
the crowd exceeded expectations.
Fred Funk won the 30th annual event with a record 20-under-par score.
