The Hamilton County Airport Authority was awarded $341,250 from the Federal Aviation Administration and the Indiana Department of Transportation to conduct an environmental assessment of the proposed extension.
The study also will include public input. An initial analysis didn’t find potential noise impacts caused by the planned runway extension. However, the authority agreed to buy Little Flower Montessori Preschool, along County Road 200 South. Part of the school’s purchase will be covered by the grant.
“This extension has been part of the airport’s master plan for over a decade and is an important enhancement to improve the safety and utility of the airport,” said Don Silvey, president of the airport authority.
Indianapolis Executive Airport has seen substantial growth in activity in recent years as companies and executives locate in the far northern suburbs, such as Carmel. The airport near Zionsville handles a number of corporate jet aircraft.
