A new restaurant called The End of the Line Public House, or simply The End, is set to replace Shelbi Street Cafe & Bistro in the Fountain Square Theatre building.

The End will feature a gastropub-style menu and one of the city’s largest selections of local beers. The neighborhood was once known as “The End” because the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Shelby and Prospect streets was used as a turnaround for streetcars.

Building owners Fern and Linton Calvert plan to reopen the restaurant Dec. 2, after a two-week renovation. The restaurant’s walls will be adorned with photographs of streetcars from the Bass Photo collection and the Indiana Historical Society.

The plans call for 14 taps dedicated to offerings from local breweries, including Fountain Square Brewing Co., Sun King Brewing, Flat 12 Bierwerks and Triton Brewing Co.

The menu will feature some holdovers from the Shelbi Street Cafe, along with new offerings, including baked pretzel sticks with beer cheese, glazed Denver-style lamb ribs, Blazin’ Asian Chicken and a baked Brie and Fuji apple sandwich.
