The Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Agency recently signed Indianapolis-based Promotus Advertising as its agency of record. MZD Advertising previously held the account.

The account is worth $1.6 million in creative work and media buys, according to Promotus officials.

“This is the first major state advertising account awarded to a minority advertising firm as a primary contractor,” said Promotus President Bruce Bryant, who founded the agency in 1983. “When you look at those [state] contracts, historically, it’s been a pretty small community that won those accounts.”

Financially, this is the eight-person agency’s biggest account, Bryant said, adding, “this win could very well be the biggest to date for the agency.”

ITPC received 10 responses to a request for proposals it put out earlier this year. Proposals were submitted by Advanced Media Network, Coles Marketing Communications, Eaton and Hancock Associates, Emmis Communications, Hetrick Communications Inc., Matchbook Creative, MZD Advertising, Performance Marketing Group and Williams Randall.

Promotus Advertising has worked with ITPC for 10 years in conjunction with MZD.

“I think the reason we won the account is our expertise in social and advocacy marketing, working on accounts like the Little Red Door and Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership campaigns,” Bryant said. “And since we’ve had 10 years’ experience working with this agency, we understand where they want to take their message.”

Other notable accounts Promotus has worked on include NCAA, Indiana Pacers and Horseshoe Casino.

Promotus is now looking at doing smoking cessation and other social marketing campaigns in Iowa, Louisiana and Maryland.
