More than 80 employees of a Virginia-based accounting firm will lose their jobs in October after it discontinues operations
at the Defense Finance and Accounting Services Center on East 56th Street in Indianapolis.
Kearney & Co. notified the Indiana Department of Workforce Development on Thursday that a loss of 84 jobs will result
from the federal government’s decision to perform contract work done by the firm in-house.
The company conducts audits and provides financial services for the federal government.
DFAS is an agency of the United States Department of Defense that provides finance and accounting services for civil and
military members of the department.
Launched in 1991, it is headquartered in a 1.6-million-square-foot building on the grounds of the former Fort Benjamin Harrison
on Indianapolis’ east side.
It employs about 3,600 people.
