A Broad Ripple bar has agreed to pay a former female employee $45,000 for allegedly firing her because of her pregnancy.

WBS Broad Ripple Inc., which does business as Wild Beaver Saloon, reached the settlement on Thursday, according to court documents.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission sued the bar in March in the United States District Court in Indianapolis.

The complaint requested that the owner compensate Heather Gibson, a former bartender and server, for back pay and any future financial losses resulting from the termination.

Besides compensating Gibson, the bar must post a non-discrimination policy in the building and must notify all managers and supervisors that discrimination due to pregnancy violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

It also must require managers and supervisors to attend a training seminar regarding sex discrimination within the next year.

The Wild Beaver Saloon in Broad Ripple is located at 723 Broad Ripple Ave. Another Wild Beaver is in downtown Indianapolis at 20 E. Maryland St. The Indianapolis-based chain also has locations in Nashville, Tenn., and Lansing, Mich.
