Indianapolis messed up by letting Ozdemir have two swings at landing a franchise. He should have been moved aside after his first failure, because the city should have gotten the message that the MLS didn’t want someone as under-resourced as he is to be an owner. Instead he took two swings and was only dropped when he showed up and asked for yet more government money for Eleven Park. Because they didn’t act swiftly, the cost of a franchise is now up to the level of foolish.
(By the way, if Surack is such a big advocate of an MLS stadium, why isn’t he putting his money where his mouth is and building it himself?)
Also, Don, if Hogsett isn’t going to face a serious opponent, what do you expect to happen? Marion County GOP is about as impotent as the Indiana Democratic Party. Stop with blaming the voters, these same voters picked Ballard twice barely a decade ago.
I agree republicans have not spent much effort or money on a candidate. Probably a wise decision considering chances of victory are nil. However, that wouldn’t stop the democrats from finding a better candidate. Remember this is their guy!

Marion County GOP has to figure out a message that will resonate with Indianapolis voters. My suggestion remains of “we will fix the road issue” but that would require … standing up for their voters as opposed to selling them out.
I hope the General Assembly has grown tired of all the secrecy BS. What grand plan does Simon have in mind for the site other than this soccer stadium, which between the City and Keystone Development is one gigantic fiasco. Cut the secret BS and let Indianapolis taxpayers in on it. Of course, CIB and their endless revenue tax stream from restaurant taxation (reminder everyone, this was supposed to be a so-called sunset tax…..hilarious) will likely foot the bill to pay for the stadium and its ongoing maintenance and upkeep along with major renovation in 15-20 years. But before that, the Colts will be knocking on the door for multi-million handouts to remodel Lucas stadium…….gotta keep those playgrounds top notch. Gainbridge renovation costs were out-of-sight and won’t be any surprise a Lucas renovation cost will be worse per capita. No………..if the Mayor wants another stadium downtown, the secret investors who have plenty of $$$$$$$$$$ should pay for and own this one and save Indy taxpayers for a change. And the General Assembly had better do its due diligence on this one. If this stadium is already some big done-deal, then certainly there needs to be commitment between the legislature, the City and the CIB that the restaurant tax cannot be raised for another, new city-owned facility. I believe a new one to come online in a couple years by the CIB is the luxury center for the Fever.
