As someone whose travel has not waned during the pandemic with over 125 hotels nights +……these hotels are SAYING it’s due to health and safety – I don’t buy it one bit. It’s 100% about staffing. Period. The same hotel that says it’s about safety has their entire staff running around without masks when there were signs everywhere mandating it. The majority of people that travel are doing it for work, not pleasure. It already sucks to be out of town for weeks on end, the one think I always enjoyed was coming back to a clean room with a made bed and clean towels. Even getting TP, Kleenex and shampoo is an ordeal. They also didn’t lower the prices to reflect these changes.

I always put the do not disturb sign out anyway, I don’t like housekeeping coming in during my stay. If I’m somewhere more than a few days then I bite the bullet and have them clean it.
I’m with you. No need to be in my room. I can throw the cover over myself and I have plenty of towels.
I work for a Hilton hotel. Its not about COVID at all .. Its that no matter what we pay, we cant get workers! We also cant get supplies from our suppliers!! We were out of shampoo for weeks. WE DO NOT WANT TO SAVE MONEY .. WE WANT TO SERVICE OUR GUEST!

I believe that most of the workers at the hotel property want to service their guests – that’s the reason most of them want to be in the hospitality industry. But these policies come from the management team at the top who are watching the bottom line and have to keep the stock share price up to keep their jobs. Even if you can’t get workers right now, the policy will not go away once the workers return to the workforce. This room cleaning issue is the same as the tsunami of placards in the hotel room bathrooms over the last decade announcing that they wanted to be green and save water so your towels would not be replaced unless you put them on the floor or specifically asked. No one believes that that policy was about saving the world – instead it was about saving money.
