Math illiteracy rampant

Keywords Opinion

Please don’t blame the state’s emphasis on tests for the lack of life skills in mathematics [Meredith column, Oct. 1]. I have had opportunities to sell tickets on a cash-only basis with persons in their 20s to persons in their 60s. None of them can count change without a cheat sheet or a calculator. This skill has been lacking for many years.
