Minneapolis-based building owner Onward Investors LLC said Thursday that Angie’s List will take over all 65,620 square feet on the ninth through 12th floors of the building at 130 E. Washington St.
The 203,305-square-foot building, which was formerly known as the Disciples Center, was acquired by Onward in September 2015 for $9.25 million and has since undergone a $4.5 million renovation.
The Christian Church-Disciples of Christ was the building’s largest tenant for years before the organization moved its 195-person headquarters in 2014 to downtown’s Landmark Center, 1099 N. Meridian St., where it occupies 60,000 square feet.
Local architectural firm Vonnegut and Bohn developed the building in 1922 for Meyer Kiser Bank. Since the closing of the bank in 1931, it has housed several of Indiana’s most prominent companies, including Farm Bureau Insurance, which owned the building from 1960 to 2006.
In 1967, Farm Bureau built an addition to the original building and added the mid-century modern facade.
Onward hired Indianapolis-based Ratio Architects Inc. to draw up the renovation plans.
“Ratio Architects restored much of the building’s historic elegance and mid-century modern design, while at the same time provided creative office space that fosters collaboration and appeal to talent in technology, advertising, media and other creative market sectors,” Onward said in a written statement.
Indianapolis-based Angie’s List is vacating about 100,000 square feet in the Landmark Center following its purchase in October by New York-based IAC, the parent company of HomeAdvisor. The acquisition created Golden, Colorado-based ANGI Homeservices.
Angie’s List also is vacating its 17.5-acre headquarters campus on East Washington Street, which the company is in the process of selling. Following Indianapolis-area layoffs, the local operations for ANGI Homeservices do not require as much space as the former Angie's List once did.
The plan is to have the entire staff move to its new location at 130 E. Washington St. by August, CEO Chris Terrill told IBJ on Feb. 9.
