OMG. Folks, we already have the right to effect term limits…stop voting for the current elected official, and vote for some one else. Defeat them in a party primary. Defeat them in the general election. If more voters choose the incumbent than vote against the incumbent, the incumbent wins. And that’s how its supposed to work.
Time in office is not disqualifying. It’s incompetence in office that should be the test. I’m amazed at the number of people who want to vote out incumbents just because they’ve held the office. If you suggested to these same folks that business leaders should be similarly terminated just for holding the job, they’d oppose the notion. If you tell them their favorite senator or respresenative needs to go because they’ve been there too long, they should rightly be opposed.
These efforts are led by people who don’t have enough support to elect their own candidate over the incumbent. I wonder how many Representatives and Senators have run on term limit pledges, broke them, and were still re-elected.
I would be less inclined to support term limits if we allowed judges to set districts verus politicians. Gerrymandering is rampant in the country and particularly bad in Indiana. The legislature draws the boundries every ten years, supposedly based on Census data but in reality the lines are drawn on political preferences. If you look at an Indiana map of congressional districts its almost comical to see how the boundries are drawn.
People who carry on about a fear of runaway convention, IMHO aren’t serious thinkers, or fear-mongers… let’s say the 2/3rd of convention delegates -somehow- approves something like the abolition of Congress. IT STILL HAS TO BE RATIFIED BY 3/4 OF STATE LEGISLATURES (or state conventions)
If something truly radical came out of the convention – if 3/4 of the separate states approve it, almost by definition it wouldn’t be runaway, because of the broad support.
Put the real fear in Congress of an Article V convention, where the likely would come out with less power, and legislation / proposed amendments addredsing problems will suddenly flow.
It is Pandora’s box ! Nobody knows for sure what might happen . Meanwhile MAGA CULT Republicans are trying to do their deed without a convention through their 2025 Project written by their shadow government think tanks and the MUSK-TRUMP Regime .
