  1. From the story: “The state said more than 2.58 million Hoosiers have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. More than 2.69 million had received the first dose of a two-dose vaccination.”

Lest anyone be confused and think that either a whopping 2.69 million, or a paltry 110,000 Hoosiers are awaiting their second dose: 192,000 of the 2.58 million Hoosiers fully vaccinated received the one-dose J&J vaccine. Therefore, 2.39 million of the 2.69 million who received the first dose have already received the second dose, leaving ~300,000 who have received the first dose, but not yet the second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines.

  2. While it’s been great to see Indiana’s decrease in its 7-day average of new positive cases from 1,098 on May 5th to 431 on June 5th (61% decline), it’s not keeping pace with the nationwide rate of decline, falling from 45,368 to 12,780 (72%) over the same period. Said another way, on May 5th, Indiana accounted for 2.42% of the nation’s new cases (Indiana’s 6.6 million population is almost exactly 2% of the U.S. population of 330 million), but on June 5th, Indiana accounted for 3.37% of the nation’s new cases. Given the much lower rate of vaccinations among Hoosiers compared to the U.S. population as a whole, it will be interesting to see if new cases continue to trend higher here compared to the nation overall.

One other note: Indiana’s COVID-19 dashboard indicates only 149 new positive cases confirmed on May 30th, probably impacted by it being the day before Memorial Day, but still lower than today’s report of 275 new cases confirmed yesterday.

  3. And D-bag Joe still has the mask mandate in place. If you ever wondered if he was in over his head, there cant be a question in a reasonable mind now.

    1. Fewer than half of the eligible Hoosiers have been vaccinated. Put another way, more half of our residents are prime targets for Covid or its variants in the next wave. For those of us who are fully vaccinated, we can once again live normal lives without fear.
