There is no subject more important and more neglected than the inequity legislators have continued to follow regarding road maintenance funding. When it comes to the neglected roads of greater Indianapolis. The ‘formula’ used for financial appropriations is a political joke and has nothing to do with practical problem solving. They know it, the media knows it and many citizens know it. By shortchanging Marion county road financial appropriations over the decades, the problem has grown to a seemingly unfathomable financial obstacle. The State needs to acknowledge this and fix it. It’s funny. 96th street is all that separates Marion and Hamilton county. The weather’s the same, if not a bit cooler to the north. Yet the roads north of the divide are in pretty good shape, those to the south, some of the worst in the country. Acknowledge the problem, fix the formula now in place and dedicate a disproportionate amount of state revenue towards catching up. Weather has nothing to do with it no more than it does in Hamilton, Hendricks, Johnson or Hancock counties.
