Schadenfreude is not reasonalble. COVID-19 has affected cities throughout the nation. And, yes, measures need to be taken to shoulder this crisis and the seek to gain some lost revenue. Downtown Indy provides a key source of revenue. What else will do it — the lost lost manufacturing? Whereas the sports palaces are indeed expensive, the trickle-down (remember that president’s term) effect benefits city coffers. So, for better or worse, events drive the significant portion of the economy. What options exist — perhaps support true high speed rail of 190 mph trains built in Indy metro and serviced in Beech Grove? Maybe.
