Anderson police procedure in question

Anderson police admit they questioned and released a man just minutes before he drove into the path of a school bus Tuesday
morning. Shane Owens is in critical condition. None of the children on the bus were hurt. Officers say they found Owens asleep
behind the wheel of his car, gave him a field sobriety test and asked him a few questions, but eventually let him go. A records
check performed after the crash revealed that Owens has a suspended driver’s license and a possible outstanding warrant in
Henry County. Department policy leaves it up to the discretion of officers whether to run records checks.
