To compete with Marian down the road or UIndy who already has a world class program? At $46,000 a year plus housing and fees…. This is a $240,000 nursing degree. That seems insanely expensive for the other options in the market that are much more affordable?
The reporter accurately stated that the tuition quoted is before discounts, scholarships, financial aid, etc. Nobody in Butler’s program is going to pay $240,000 for a degree. You also included housing in your total; many students choose to commute from home to avoid those fees. Bottom line: Butler will be competitive on cost with the other local private schools you mentioned, and has a much more respected brand than those schools.
Mark – the competition for scholarships with FOUR new programs kicking off next year is going to be intense. And scholarships are revoked with a single bad semester for a student.
Yes – a student could live at home and only pay $23,000 but then they should go to Marian or Uindy which has better programs and pipelines into the job market.
Just on persons opinion…
Agree with JJ. Hard to justify a $240,000 education where low hourly pay and limited raises for front line nurses are the norm.
Does anyone care what nursing school they went to? Its seems like the market needs qualified nurses, not someone from a particular school. Tuition does seem high and I’d be willing, as a state, to subsidize these costs, if they stay in Indiana, at public facilities for X amount of time.
There are many successful and competitive private college and university nursing programs – here in Indiana, Saint Mary’s College in South Bend, Vanderbilt and Boston College just to name a few.
Not worth the cost of getting the degree. Likewise most people and/or their parents can’t afford it. High ed is going to put it self out of business if they keep this stuff up. Too many administrators & fancy buildings that don’t support the academic goals. Finally people with high mental capabilities can do better without creating debt that will take them 30 years to pay off.
