  1. “MLB proposed raising the minimum salary from $570,500 to $700,000 this year, with increases of $10,000 annually, and the union asked for $725,000 this year, $745,000 in 2023, $765,000 in 2024 and increases for 2025 and 2026 based on the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners.”

First world problems. This is why I dislike professional sports. They are only playing for the money, not the game itself. Where is the pot that contributes to the community they surround, especially where the local community may not have the means to enjoy a baseball game due to the cost. We have our priorities messed up.

Let them all strike. No one wins and only hurts the future of the game.

  2. It’s funny to see people take the side of multi-billionaires over millionaires… This really is not necessarily just about player salaries. It’s mostly about competitive balance. Players are tired of certain teams receiving their part of revenue sharing and then not spending it on the player salaries. Last year 6 players in MLB individually made more money for the season than Baltimore spent on their entire roster. Do players make a lot of money compared to the average worker, sure… but player salaries have been declining over the last few years while overall baseball revenue is up and owners are making hundreds of millions of dollars with team payrolls that are significantly less than where they should be. Additionally, a team controls their draft choice for up to 12 years, (6 minor/6majors) that’s crazy! Why should you be stuck with a team that doesn’t care about winning for that long.

    1. On paper the owners are making that money, but they also take all of the risk. We don’t know what they are using that money for. Paydown debt, recruiting, payroll, other business ventures. Everyone is quick to put down the business owners, but they are the owner. If my company is successful, why are the employees entitled to more, just because they want it? They haven’t paid anything to me when sales were bad or we were closed.

I am not agreeing or disagreeing, but this mob (union) mentality of I see you making more money, so we demand more or we aren’t playing. See the door and we’ll invest in players that want to play ball. Looking forward to those players in the minor leagues.
