Trump overreached. China has the cards. Trump puts tail between legs. China wins, American consumers win.
Can someone explain to me how a trade deficit hurt our economy? Biden left Trump with decreasing inflation, higher wages, more jobs filled, rising stock markets.
Trump’s fantasy of scores (or hundreds or thousands) of new manufacturing factories built and operating the US defies logic. We have falling birth rates and increased deportations of immigrants. Who would work in those factories? The realistic answer: robots.
The real losers in all of this continue to be small AMERICAN businesses who rely on China to manufacture their products. The reality is that for most, China is the ONLY country who can support them. The temporary nature of this pause only continues the chaos and uncertainty that they’ve had to navigate for the last month. Stop the trade war now.
Brent how’s it going applying for that job with the federal government? maybe you can be treasury secretary or even take Jerome Powell’s job is head of the federal reserve business acumen is amazing. I’m surprised Trump hasn’t called you personally to get you working for him.
I guess you missed that story about Roche diagnostic building a plant here and attributing it to the tariffs.
Rhea, Roche “admitted” no such thing. Try reading that article again. No mention of tariffs. Also, I served in the federal government as an appointee during the administrations of Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, in addition to holding senior positions on the staffs of two US Senators and one House select committee. If you’d like me to tutor you on the finer points of how things work, let me know.
Why isn’t anyone discussing the Duty already imposed on imported goods? These tariffs are above and beyond what has already been paid according to the Duty Schedule. For example, one product we import, have always had a 9.8% tariff. Now add the now/temporary 30% tariff. Some products already have a 25% tariff, so add another 30%.
If this is to offset the trade deficit, then the conversation should be including the duty, already in-place for that purpose.
Just read Hicks article in the Star and see how well things have gone over the last 3 months. Those who voted for economic chaos got their wish.
Cry harder. Hicks will.
he’s been in office a little over a hundred days. let’s see how things are going after a year or two. after all Biden wasn’t able to screw up the economy as fast as he did.
