  1. Any solution cannot ignore the public health and general population wellness side of the equation.

    Hospitals deal with acute illnesses, which are often brought on by obesity/overweight and smoking. Both of those health indicators/individual choices in the aggregate are too high in Indiana…leading to more expensive treatments.

  2. Getting rid of noncompetes would be huge, especially given how few areas outside of Indianapolis are conducive to running a subspecialty or surgical practice, unless you go a couple hours away in most cases since there aren’t any other really big cities in Indiana, with Ft Wayne and Evansville being reasonable large, but far enough away to make commuting while waiting out the noncompete to be a nonstarter for most families. Many specialists are essentially driven out of the state altogether if they work at one of the large hospital systems in central Indiana and decide to leave.
