DHL retreat leaves 323 Hoosier workers behind

December 10, 2008

DHL Express' exit from the package delivery business in the United States will result in 323 workers losing their jobs in Indiana.

Most of the jobs, 189, are in Indianapolis, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. The rest are in Lafayette, Bloomington and South Bend. The layoffs will be finished by Jan. 23, the state said.

DHL U.S. Express is owned by Germany-based Deutsche Post AG. The pull-back, announced in November, was driven by ongoing losses and is expected to affect a total of 5,400 American workers.
