A report issued this week showed that
fishing license sales in Indiana so far this year are up 8.1 percent. That’s higher than the national average of 7.7 percent
reported by the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation and the American Sportfishing Association.
The Indiana
Department of Natural Resources has sold nearly 50,000 more licenses in the first nine months of 2009 than during that same
period last year.
Officials said one reason fishing is becoming more popular could be because the slumping economy
may give people more time to enjoy outdoor activities.
