Baker & Daniels LLP

Serving regional, national and international business clients

Flexible working arrangements

Laptops and BlackBerries are provided for all legal and management staff to allow them to work from home or for use while traveling, when necessary.

The firm allows attorneys to stay on partnership track while on a reducedhours schedule due to a family situation or other pre-approved situation.

At its discretion, the firm will consider telecommuting arrangements for employees who have at least one year of service, have an above-average or higher performance rating and clearly demonstrate the ability to work independently, be highly motivated and organized and have excellent communication skills.

The firm allows job sharing when participants demonstrate the ability to work together without negatively affecting client service. Currently there are several job-share positions in place, and one director-level employee who works a compressed work week.

Since 2000, the firm has served as a business partner in education to Indianapolis Public School 39 and supports the school by committing financial resources as well as volunteer time. Hourly employees are allowed up to eight hours of paid leave per semester to volunteer at School 39.

Child care

Employees may set aside a maximum of $5,000 per year in pretax money in a dependent-care expense account.

Family leave

The firm provides up to 12 weeks of family or medical leave during any 12-month period to eligible employees, in accordance with the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993. The leave may be paid, unpaid or a combination of paid and unpaid, depending on the circumstances and as specified in the firm’s FMLA policy.

Female-friendliness

The Women’s Law Association at Harvard Law School recently named Baker & Daniels LLP one of the top three firms in the nation for women. The report, “Presumed Equal: What America’s Top Women Lawyers Really Think About Their Firms,” details the results of a workplace satisfaction survey of approximately 4,000 female lawyers from 105 law firms responding to questions about opportunities for advancement, training, business development and leadership.

Multi-Cultural Law Magazine named Baker & Daniels one of the 100 best law firms in the U.S. for women in 2007.

Family-friendly benefits

Free legal assistance to all employees (up to $2,500) for such services as wills, house closings, etc.

The firm pays 100 percent of the cost of Employee Assistance Program benefits for all personnel and immediate family members for professional assessment, short-term counseling and referral services for personal issues.

Additional services include on-site dry cleaning pick-up and delivery, onsite shoe repair pick-up and return, 24-hour access to on-site fitness facility, and half-day paid holiday shopping time off. Many off-site fitness/weight management programs and classes are subsidized.

Employees become participants in the firm’s 401(k) program as of the first entry date (Jan. 1 or July 1) following their hire date. The firm contributes three percent of gross earnings into each participant’s account. Firm contributions are 100-percent vested after two years of service.

The firm offers same-sex domestic partners insurance coverage under its group medical and dental plans
