We at the Sunrise assume it was a slow news day. We are but a small, familyowned restaurant wondering why we merited such a writeup in the [Feb. 14] IBJ.

The Sunrise Cafe here at 116th and Meridian was started in 1988 and is owned by Lisa and Jim Horsfield. We also started the Keystone store in 1985 with Scott Horsfield (owner of the Sunrise Cafe at 116th and Cumberland Road) and Ralph Webb (owner of the 86th and Keystone Sunrise Cafe).

Lease negotiations [for the 116th and Meridian building] with Magnum Resources had been ongoing for six months. The week of Feb. 14, we were informed by IBJ of the sale of the building when they called us for comment.

So where does that leave us? Contrary to the article’s suggestions, The Sunrise Cafe is not at its “sunset.” We are looking to relocate in the area and plan many more years of breakfast meetings and luncheons.

We will be open for business at this location until late summer and will advise everyone of our new location as soon as possible.

Our thanks to our loyal customers over the past 17 years. We are looking forward to many more. We feel it is up to the people of Carmel, Indy’s north side and us as to when the sun will set on the Sunrise Cafe.
