WXIN-TV Channel 59, the Indianapolis Fox affiliate, announced on Thursday that it is expanding its local news programming in both the morning and early evening.
The station will add three hours of news from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. on weekends and will air an additional hour of news weekdays at 5 p.m. The weekend newscasts will debut on Aug. 21, and the weekday broadcasts on Sept. 13.
WXIN said it plans to add several positions—on air and off—as part of the expansion.
“The viewers have spoken and clearly like having Fox59 News as a choice every morning, afternoon and night,” News Director Lee Rosenthal said in a prepared statement. “
WXIN last year expanded its morning news programming and launched an hour of news at 4 p.m.
Viewership at 4:30 a.m. increased 43.9 percent, while its 5 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. newscasts attracted 64.3 percent and 67.5 percent more viewers, respectively, according to figures from the May sweeps period.
