Police: Local homeowner shoots attacker

August 9, 2010

Indianapolis police say a homeowner shot a man who attacked him with a pipe wrench during an apparent robbery attempt. Emergency workers called to the city's south side Sunday evening found a man with gunshot wounds to his abdomen and arm. Police officers followed a blood trail about a half-block to a house where they found the 59-year-old homeowner with head injuries. The homeowner told officers that the other man had helped him with home renovations. The homeowner said the man suddenly attacked him with the wrench. He  was able to fight off the attacker and get a handgun, then fired two shots, he told police.
