Republican Steve Dugger was driving on State Road 38 in Henry County about 8:30 p.m. after a day of campaigning when he stopped at an accident scene. He ran to a car in a ditch to see if anyone was injured and found his opponent, Democrat Steve Holmes. Holmes was not seriously injured, so Dugger turned his attention to the other car. A victim from that vehicle was flown to an Indianapolis hospital. Witnesses say Holmes may have hit the other car head-on while attempting to pass.
