Indiana Beach plans to add ropes course, zip line

The Indiana Beach amusement park in northern Indiana is adding a new adventure area featuring rock climbing, zip lines and a high ropes course.

Indiana Beach opens for the season on May 7, but marketing director Sherry Vogel says the park's Adventure Point will open June 4. Park patrons will be able to climb 30 feet on a rock climbing wall, try the ropes course or take a zip line over the edge at Lake Shafer.

The Journal & Courier of Lafayette reports that Indiana Beach attracts about 750,000 visitors a year. Vogel hopes attendance will top one million with the new additions.

The changes are part of a multimillion dollar expansion and improvements at the park, which got its start 85 years ago as a swimming area.
