BOONE COUNTY

Hotel, water park planned

Two projects, including a hotel and water park complex, are poised to join Duke Realty Corp.’s Anson development at the Interstate 65 and State Road 334 interchange.

An affiliate of locally based Street Corner Group LLC expects construction to begin this year on the $50 million water park/hotel project on 17 acres south of S.R. 334 and north of the Royal Run subdivision, according to the company.

Wild Water Cove at Boone Crossing would include two, 125-room hotels and three outlots for restaurants or retailers. Completion is expected in the fall of 2009.

This is the company’s first water-park development. Founded in 2001, Street Corner Group’s developments are mostly neighborhood retail centers. They include Avon Corner Shops at State Road 267 and County Road 100 North in Avon and Greyhound Court Shops on Greyhound Court in Carmel.

Its developments also include a 114-room Hampton Inn & Suites set to open in the summer near the Honda motor plant in Greensburg.

Locally based Paul Kite Co. is proposing the other project near the I-65/334 interchange. Its 40-acre development at County Road 700 East calls for 280,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, including a 190,000-square-foot anchor tenant.

To make way for the development, the county road would need to be rerouted, which would likely meet opposition from Royal Run residents.

The County Plan Commission is set to hear details on the Paul Kite proposal at its Feb. 6 meeting after tabling the issue earlier this month.

A spokeswoman for the developer declined to comment.
