Nestle may expand in Anderson
The Anderson Board of Zoning Appeals on July 2 approved a request by Nestle Corp. to expand its 880,000-square-foot plant in the Madison County city by 260,000 square feet.
The approval was granted with hope that Nestle will choose its newly operational Anderson plant for production of a new beverage product.
Anderson is one of several cities the Swiss company is considering for the expansion, said Linda Dawson, the city’s executive director of economic and community development.
“We anticipate the decision to be made in the near future,” Dawson said. She did not know what other cities Nestle is considering and Nestle did not respond to a request for that information.
The expansion would add 140 jobs.
Nestle began churning out Nesquik Ready-to-Drink and Coffee-mate liquid products from its $360 million plant in May. It has hired nearly all 300 employees it originally said it would.
