Business hotel planned for Shelbyville

SHELBY COUNTY-Recent growth in and around Shelbyville has been enough to convince one hotel developer to jump in. Greenwood-based Reainco Development Corp. will build a 74-room Holiday Inn Express hotel at the intersection of Interstate 74 and State Road 9. The addition of a casino to Indiana Downs in Shelbyville is sure to attract more business travelers, as will the opening of the Honda of America Manufacturing Inc. plant in Greensburg, which is 20 miles down the road on I-74. “Shelbyville is growing, no question about that, but the surrounding areas are actually helping the economy of Shelbyville,” said Amarjeet Luthra, president of Reainco. If he’s right, he’s picked the right hotel brand. Hotel Inn Express targets business travelers, albeit frugal ones. The new hotel will sport redesigned signage, an indoor swimming pool and a meeting room that can hold 120 people. It will also offer hot breakfasts. The pool, new signs and hot breakfast are among the changes Holiday Inn Express is making to its brand, Luthra said. Holiday Inn Express is owned by United Kingdombased InterContinental Hotels Group. The hotel, which will cost $6 million to $7 million to build, will open in April, Luthra said. He said he and his investors might hire an outside management firm to run it.
