Starfish Initiative names founder president

Michael J. Feeney, who founded Starfish Initiative in 2003, will become CEO of the organization that works with high-achieving, low-income high school students.

Feeney, who starts Aug. 1, will leave his post as senior vice president of fundraising at Cathedral High School. Feeney is the former owner of Feeney Hornak Mortuaries.

Starfish offers one-on-one mentoring to promote college readiness for high-achieving students who qualify for the 21st Century Scholars program. Feeney has served as a mentor since the organization’s founding. He succeeds interim CEO Mike Holland and former CEO Joyce Johnson.
