Integrating bus, rail at downtown station
This concept by Wes Perkins would bring perhaps the most ambitious and transformative change to downtown since Circle Centre mall.
Here the rail line ends at a transportation hub that also ties in bus routes, Amtrak trains and even a monorail system that could run downtown or even to Indianapolis International Airport.
The development would be focused from roughly Meridian Street west all the way to White River. There, balconies of three-story homes and condos along the banks would protrude over the river. Inland would be any number of residential high rises with housing and commercial space.
Parking lots surrounding the stadium would
be turned into green spaces for various outdoor activities. Some vehicles could be brought into a plaza for tailgating on game day. But fans could park in other parking facilities downtown. One of the more radical ideas would be to construct a “sports monument” circle on Meridian Street, a couple of blocks east of the stadium.
