The Bloomington Police Department began searching for evidence Tuesday morning at the Sycamore Ridge Landfill related to the disappearance of Indiana University student Lauren Spierer. Bloomington police are being assisted by the FBI, the IU Police Department and a search expert from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The Terre Haute-area landfill is about 55 miles from where Spierer was last seen. The landfill operator has identified areas that contain waste taken from Bloomington around the time of Spierer’s disappearance in early June. The search could take up to two weeks.
