Indianapolis-based MainGate Inc. recently signed a five-year deal with the Big Ten, making MainGate the exclusive retail and merchandising company for the organization’s football championship games and basketball tournaments through 2016.

Though financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, sports business experts estimated that MainGate’s revenue over the life of the contract could reach mid-to-high seven figures.

The partnership formally begins at this year’s football championship. MainGate will operate all merchandise locations at Lucas Oil Stadium during the event and off-site retail outlets at the Fan Fest and the host hotels. Beginning in the 2012-2013 academic year, MainGate will provide the same operations in the host venue for the Big Ten’s basketball tournaments as well as the Big Ten football championship game.

MainGate handles store and online merchandising for a variety of clients, including the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, IndyCar Series, National Hot Rod Association, Harley-Davidson and race-car driver Danica Patrick.
