James Whitcomb Riley Elementary School, at 40th Street near Capitol Avenue, was placed on lockdown Monday morning while police searched for an armed suspect in the area. Police said the suspect fired multiple shots near 39th Street and Cornelius Avenue. Officers pursued the suspect to 40th and Graceland Avenue but the suspect ran away once confronted.
