Subscribe NowAn Indianapolis police officer shot and killed a 23-year-old man Monday night, police say, after the suspect opened fire on the officer during a traffic stop. Demetrius Martin of Indianapolis died in the shooting in the parking lot of Carriage House Apartments near 42nd Street and Mitthoeffer Road. Officer Dewey Runnels was shot in the left upper thigh and then fired back, police said. Runnels was hospitalized in good condition. Martin has been involved in at least a dozen previous police reports involving drugs, guns and assaults.
