I hesitate to tell you that “Radio Golf” is the 10th in August Wilson’s cycle of plays, each set in a different decade of the 20th century. Yes, it’s an impressive achievement, but saying that might make it seem like you’re missing something if you didn’t see the other nine.
Truth is, each of Wilson’s plays is self-contained, although many revolve around similar themes of how we balance the present and the past. In this case, the story concerns a Pittsburgh real estate developer—and potential mayoral candidate—whose plans for a shopping and apartment complex are complicated by a homeowner who refuses to sell.
