Three homes damaged by fire

A vacant house on the city's east side was destroyed early Tuesday morning by a fire that also damaged two neighboring homes.  A 4-year-old girl who lived across from the homes in the 3300 block of East Vermont Street was woken by the blaze about 3:30 a.m. and alerted her father, who called 911. Two firefighters were treated for minor burns. Damage to the three buildings was estimated at $57,000.
