The Hamilton County pilot accused of faking his own death appeared in federal court this morning. But a public defender says Marcus Schrenker, 38, isn’t mentally competent to stand trial. Schrenker’s attorney has asked a Florida federal judge to order a mental evaluation. Investigators say the Carmel investment adviser intentionally crashed his airplane in the Florida Panhandle. Meanwhile, the Indiana Department of Insurance is holding a hearing today to decide whether to revoke Schrenker’s license to sell annuities.
