Gov. Mitch Daniels says he's so eager to take over as Purdue University's new president he won't take any time off after leaving the governor's office.

Daniels' second term as governor ends Jan. 14 as soon as fellow Republican Mike Pence is sworn into office. Daniels says that not long after Pence takes the oath of office he'll be headed to West Lafayette to start working at Purdue.

Daniels was selected in June to be Purdue's president. He says he's been asked many times how long of a break he'll be taking after leaving the Statehouse.

Daniels tells the Journal & Courier of Lafayette he's kept Purdue waiting one semester "and that is long enough," adding "I think that it is time to get to work."
