Channel 8, Channel 13 newscasts get kudos

WISH-TV Channel 8 and WTHR-TV Channel 13 have won six regional Edward R. Murrow Awards.

And viewers should sleep better knowing it wasn’t for reporting on bedbugs.

WISH was honored by the Radio Television Digital News Association for overall excellence and for its website.

“The awards represent a news operation’s commitment on all journalistic facets, across all news delivery platforms,” said Jeff White, WISH’s president and general manager.

WTHR won RTDNA’s “best newscast” for the Feb. 4 newscast of last year, shot in the midst of the Super Bowl crowd in Indianapolis.

Channel 13 also won top honors for Bob Segall’s investigative story on the early release of violent criminals. It won best hard news for Kevin Rader’s report on hungry families and best news series for Segall’s investigation of IRS mismanagement.

“It underscores our commitment to quality journalism,” said John Cardenas, WTHR’s president and general manager.
